Gooding parents face allegations of child abuse
Police: Father burned children
GOODING - Authorities in Gooding say a man burned the hands of at least two children under the age of 5 on a cooking stove to punish them for playing with light switches, court records show.

Manual Salinas-Castro, 34, is charged with two felony counts and one misdemeanor count of injury to a child, according to court records.

His wife, Amanda Rae Salinas, 28, is also accused in the abuse case. She is charged with two felony counts of accessory to injury to a child and three misdemeanor counts of failing to report abuse, court records show.

They are both set to have preliminary hearings Thursday in Gooding County 5th District Court.

Authorities assert that they learned of the alleged abuse from the father of a 3-year-old boy, who reported on Jan. 21 that Castro had burned children's hands.

Authorities noted circular patterns that looked like a stove burner on the children's skin along with blistering, according to court records.

"Manual's wife, Amanda Salinas admitted that he had burned the children's hands while she was around and she did not report it and even attempted to hide from (law enforcement) and did not take her daughter to the doctor to have her hand checked out," court records say.

Authorities assert that Salinas-Castro admitted to burning the hands of his daughter and nephew, according to court records. "I was disciplining them for playing with the light switches by putting their hands on the burner of the stove."

While investigating the burns, police also say they found other abuse to Castro's 9-year-old son.

"I also discovered that (Castro's son) had some bruising on his body consistent with being struck with a hand very hard or repeatedly."

The girl and her sister are living with grandparents in St. Maries.he 27-year-old mother of abuse victim Kyra Wine pleaded guilty Friday to a felony count of injuring her 3-year-old daughter by neglect.

Christina Haynes could spend five years in prison if a judge accepts her plea bargain.

Haynes to plead guilty to felony child abuse in exchange for a fixed five-year prison sentence and an additional five years if a prison board determines it is necessary.

The plea bargain also allows Rogers to argue for less prison time during Haynes’ July 17 sentencing.

Sex Offender Tuggle Found in Idaho

A convicted sex offender, who police say stabbed his 12-year-old daughter multiple times and left her for dead beside a rural road, has been captured after a week-long manhunt.

John R. Tuggle was arrested in the northern Idaho mountains Tuesday. His daughter remains in serious condition in a Spokane, Washington hospital, but is expected to recover.

"He said he had not eaten in three days," Sheriff Chuck Reynalds said. "So much for living in the wilds of northern Idaho. Apparently he was not as proficient as he thought he was. He ate two full plates of food and is resting in solitary."

Tuggle is being held on attempted murder charges.

Tuggle served nine years in prison for raping his 14-year-old sister-in-law. He traveled to Idaho from Colorado to see his children, who he had not seen in 10 years. He told his ex-wife that he wanted to take his daughter shopping, but instead drove her into the woods and assaulted her, according to police.

Police were able to capture Tuggle after a convenience store clerk recognized him from a wanted poster.
